Edmée Favart (Soprano) (Paris, France 1879 – Marseille, France 1941)





Her father Edmond Favart appeared as baritone. She made her debut at the age of 15 at the Théâtre des Variétés in Paris in ‘’Le petit Duc’’ of Ch. Lecocq. Then she appeared in Brussels and at the Théâtre Gaîté-Lyrique in Paris. She continued her education with the pedagogues Hettich and Isnardon. In 1912 and 1914 she guested at the Paris Grand Opéra in gala performances of operettas. She become known by her shining appearances at the famous operetta theaters of the French metropolis (Théâtre Mogador, Théâtre Châtelet, Théâtre Marigny). In 1923 she sang at the Théâtre des Variétés the title role in the premiere of the operetta ‘’Ciboulette’’ of Reynaldo Hahn. In 1915 she was engaged by the Opéra-Comique in Paris, where she sang regularly up to 1925 (debut as Mignon of A. Thomas). At Opéra-Comique her repertoire included Cherubino in ‘’Nozze di Figaro’’, Despina in’’ Così fan tutte’’, Rose Friquet in ‘’Les Dragons de Villars’’ of Maillart, Micaela in ‘’Carmen’’, Rozenn in ‘’Le Roi d'Ys’’ of Lalo, Mimi in ‘’La Bohème’’, Manon of Massenet, Colette in ‘’La Basoche’’ of A. Messager, Hélène in ‘’Véronique’’ of the same composer and Cathérine in the premiere of the opera ‘’La Rôtisserie de la Reine Pedauque’’ by Ch. Levadé (1920). In 1917 she appeared at the Municipal Theater of Zurich. In 1940 she left Paris and went to Marseille, where she died soon.
