Paul Kötter (Tenor) (31. 10. 1898 Wuppertal-Barmen, † 17. 9. 1974 Francoforte / M)




Paul was a soldier during the First World war. In 1919 he began his education with Julius von Raatz-Brockmann in Berlin who retrained his original baritone to the tenor. In 1928 he made his debut at the Opernhaus in Essen as Walther von Stolzig in ‘’Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg’’. He made guest appearances in Prague, Belgrade, Sofia, Geneva and Antwerp. In Frankfurt a.M. he appeared in the premiere of the following operas: "Dr. Johannes Faust" by Hermann Reutter (22. 5. 1936), "Columbus" by Werner Egk (13.7.1942) and "Die Kluge" of Carl Orff (20. 2. 1943). His repertoire included Radames in ‘’Aida’’, Turiddu in ‘’Cavalleria Rusticana’’, Riccardo in ‘’Ballo in maschera’’, Manrico in ‘’Trovatore’’ and emperor in "Frau ohne Schatten" by R. Strauss.
