Alexander Aleksandrovich (Tenor) (Nizhny Novgorod 1881 – USA 1955)




His real surname was Pokrovski. He studied physics and mathematics at the St. Petersburg university. Aleksandrovitch studied singing with the tenor I.Tomars, and acting with A. Petrovski. He made his debut at the Mariinski in 1909 as Sinodal (‘’Demon’’). He sang there up to 1919. In 1913 following the advice of Diagilev, he sang during the Russian seasons in Paris and London in "Boris Godunov". In 1916, Aleksandrovich made his debut at the Bolshoi as Lenski and Berendei. In 1919, Aleksandrovich left Russia. He sang concerts in Germania, Paris (there in 1922, he sang a series of concerts dedicated to the history of Russian music), and Barcelona. In the 1930s, he sang with the Parisian Russian opera (director Zeretelli).
